The LeMieux Vector Control Safety Stirrups are lightweight aluminium safety stirrups with a hinged quick-release arm, designed to combine reduced weight with dependable security in the irons. Machined from aviation grade aluminium, each stirrup weighs just 419g, making it one of the lighter options on the market without sacrificing stability underfoot. The footplate sits at a 0° angle and features a cross-track grip surface with embedded hardened steel pins, keeping the boot securely positioned in the iron. A twin-balance arch system supports the footplate and distributes the rider's weight evenly across the base of the frame, while the recessed, off-set apex encourages a 45° outward orientation, helping riders find the correct foot angle and recover a lost stirrup more easily. The integrated hinged arm uses a two-stage release system to prevent it from opening unintentionally, locking into the base of the main frame to keep weight evenly distributed under pressure, such as when landing over a fence. When lateral pressure is applied to the arm, it releases to let the foot come free, helping to reduce the risk of the rider being dragged, with a tested breakout force of 36N (approximately 3.62kg), enough resistance for everyday riding while still allowing release when needed. As with any stirrup of this quick-release design, riders should be aware that release is not guaranteed in every fall scenario, factors such as a horse falling, a slipping saddle from a loose girth, or an unusual exit angle can occasionally prevent enough lateral force from reaching the release arm, though this is rare.
